Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei will attend mourning ceremonies marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).
According to the Leader’s website, the ceremonies will begin on Friday, September 6, the 6th day of the lunar month of Muharram, at the Imam Khomeini Husseiniya (Shia religious center) in Tehran.
Senior Iranian officials and thousands of people from different walks of life will also attend the mourning rituals.
Speakers at the programs elaborate on the features and objectives of the Ashura uprising and elegists recite elegies on the sad occasion.
The mourning ceremonies will be held every night until the 11th day of Muharram (Wenesday, September 11).
Throughout Iran, millions of people mourn the martyrdom of the Sayyid-ul-Shuhada (master of martyrs) in Muhrram.
Dressed in black, mourners take to the streets and also gather in mosques to grieve the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).
